Aino at her garden studio, Zurich — 2019
The Beginning
Aino Bonsai began not in a shop, but in a small apartment in Zurich, where a single juniper sat on a windowsill and asked for attention every morning.
That tree — a twelve-year-old shimpaku — was a gift. It came with no instructions and a single warning: it does not forgive neglect. It was the best teacher Aino ever had.
Over the years, what began as one tree became dozens. The apartment gave way to a garden. The garden became a studio. Each bonsai in our collection has been cultivated with the same care as that first juniper — patient, deliberate, unhurried.
The Philosophy
Bonsai is not about miniaturisation. It is about essence. A bonsai asks: what is the soul of this tree? And then it takes decades to answer.
We believe each bonsai is a conversation between the artist and nature. The artist suggests. Nature insists. The result, over time, is something neither could have made alone.
When you bring a bonsai into your home, you are not buying a plant. You are accepting stewardship of a living artwork — one that will outlast you if you care for it well.
Our Practice
Every tree in the Aino Bonsai collection has been grown or acquired with provenance. We work only with healthy specimens, and we do not rush development for the sake of sale.
Each purchase includes a personal handover in Zurich, a care guide specific to your species, and the option to return for consultation. We do not sell trees we would not keep ourselves.
This is not a business built on volume. It is built on trust — between us, the trees, and the people who choose to live alongside them.
「 The tree does not hurry. Neither do we. 」— Aino, on the practice of bonsai
Sincerity
Every tree is presented honestly — its age, its history, its care requirements.
Patience
We do not rush development. Good bonsai cannot be accelerated.
Beauty
Aesthetic consideration guides every pruning decision, every repot.
Harmony
Between tree and artist. Between owner and living art.
